On March 29, I photographed the birth of a beautiful baby girl. To say that it was amazing, moving, emotional, awe-inspiring and beautiful is the understatement of the century. I hope the images convey the sense of family, love and devotion that surrounded Bethany as she gave birth. I, for one, was in tears behind the lens as I was trying to take photos. It was an experience I will never forget and I hope I have the chance to photograph more births in the future.
Happy Birthday, Emmie!
Everyone closely watched this monitor to see how the baby’s heart rate was faring as labour progressed
Family gathered around Bethany. I love how calm and jovial everyone seems.
Bethany’s Dad and Grandfather out in the waiting room
Reese, Bethany’s husband, looked calm and happy
Bethany’s Grandmother anxiously paced the hallways while we were waiting to go back into the room.
Bethany had an epidural so even at 6cm, she was a happy camper! Reese held her hand and they laughed about little things to pass the time.
Reese was always there to give Bethany a reassuring squeeze on the arm or hand.
Bethany has their first daughter’s name tattooed on her arm. I asked where she was going to get this baby’s name tattooed on her 🙂
The contractions strengthened and Bethany could feel the pressure even through the epidural. I love how Reese’s expression is saying, “You’ve got this”.
Those are some pretty decent contractions!
Things started to get more intense as everyone prepared for the baby’s arrival.
Then it was time to push! I stuffed myself in a corner of the delivery room so that I didn’t get in anyone’s way.
Everyone was ready, even the Panda Warmer.
Bethany’s mom helped out as the pushing continued.
Baby Emmie was born!
Everyone was overcome with emotion, including me.
Beauty and perfection in an 8lb baby girl
Reese got to cut the cord
Baby Emmie got her fingers and toes counted…
…her lungs cleared out…
…and her head measured.
While the baby was getting checked out, Reese thanked his wife. She sure was amazing.
The family with their new addition
A moment a mother never forgets
