I’ve lived all over the world, but Rhode Island really is a special place. In less than an hour, you can travel from areas of thick pine forests to the beach. Then there’s the unique rocky vistas of Jamestown and the stunning views in Bristol.
There are so many picture perfect places to shoot that showcase all of nature’s beauty that I rarely shoot in Providence, but yesterday I switched it up with Ashley and Jon. We went to a rooftop parking garage and had way too much fun to call it work.
I always do a lot of research and legwork picking out locations. This location was chosen because it met a few critical criteria:
- Open top parking garage
- City views in the background
- A tall building directly to the West (I needed something to block the setting sun so it didn’t overpower the images)
- A light surface, which would reflect the sunlight back on my clients. A black or dark surface absorbs light and would have made the photos feel a lot darker. I did use flashes to balance the image but I wanted it to look very natural.
I used arial views of the city thanks to Google Maps to find potential locations.
Here are some of my favourite images from the session.
