I met Haley and Steve at their home to photograph their new baby, Colin, who was born only 11 days before. I LOVE these lifestyle newborn sessions – they are so sweet and low-stress. When I got there, Colin was a bit fussy and Haley was trying so hard to get him to be quiet. “It’s ok, this is real life, don’t stress and he will eventually calm down,” I told her. Sure enough, he was a bit fussy for a while but then calmed down and was a dream baby.

While Haley and Steve got Colin ready, I photographed some details of Colin’s nursery. When I was pregnant with my two kids, I spent AGES on pinterest looking at nursery ideas. It was borderline crazy but I loved how both girls’ rooms turned out. As soon as I walked into Colin’s room, I knew that Haley and Steve had put a ton of thought into the decor. Steve is a firefighter so there were little elements of fire trucks throughout the room. I loved the calming blue paint colour they chose, and the white furniture really made everything pop!

Before Haley and Steve had a human baby, they had three canine children, and as I expected, the dogs were all interested in the photoshoot. Wylie, a Cocker Spaniel, was especially concerned about the baby and kept a watchful eye on him the entire time I was there, even poking his nose through the crib to check in on Colin as Steve was swaddling him.

Haley and Steve were so attentive and did an amazing job calming Colin down. Parenthood is a real trip, just trying to figure out in those first few weeks (and who am I kidding; forever after) what makes your child happy, what they need from you, and how to comfort them. Congratulations guys – you are doing great šŸ™‚
